Mission Hill: Grade 7-8 Program
Session 4: January 29 - March 12, 2014
Week 6: March 12, 2014

Making Guacamole for everyone
Today was our end of session group performance with the Gymcraftics wellness program. After watching their performance, our group put on a push-hands show. We used this as an opportunity to teach a little bit about what we've been learning over the past 6 weeks. After watching the show, some of the other students wanted to give it a shot.
Next, we made some delicious guacamole for everyone to enjoy together. Those avocados sure are delicious AND nutritious!
Thanks for a great session!

Week 5: March 5, 2014

The students watched a performance in the auditorium this week. See you next week!
Week 4: February 26, 2014

We continued with our push-hands training. Mr. Warner focused on teaching body control and using both force and misdirection to be successful in competition. It looks like it will be a good tournament in a couple weeks!
We also made our sprout salad this week. Throw a little sriracha in anything, and it'll be a big hit! Some fresh-grown sunflower sprouts, fresh carrots and cabbage, and our own spicy-sweet dressing. Delicious!
We'll be enjoying a performance with the group next week, but we'll have updates from our joint Green Dragons / Gymcraftics session in two weeks!

Week 3: February 12, 2014

We had a strong lesson this week. Everyone enjoyed learning push-hands and competing against each other. We took a look at some root structures to get a better idea of how our root can help us in competition.
We learned to make dragon water and learned about how important hydration and electrolytes are.
Week 2: February 5, 2014

Snow day!
Week 1: December 4, 2013

It's all boys this session at Mission Hill. We focused a part of the lesson on teaching them "push-hands." After they've shown us we can trust them with our normal martial arts lessons, we'll get them competing. The plans are that for our last week this session, we will join with another wellness group to perform for each other. Our group will put on a mini-tournament of push-hands and will make something tasty and nutritious for everyone. We can't wait!
We also looked at roots and how they help plants. They can help us in martial arts just like they help plants survive! Everyone loved the guacamole we made fresh from some avocados. They may not grow locally, but they sure are delicious and nutritious!
This should be a great session at Mission Hill.
