Session 3: December 4 - January 22

Week 6: January 22, 2013

The snow storm kept us home this week.  Unfortunately this was our last week with this group, but we're always excited to start a new session!

Week 5: January 15, 2013

Building off of last week, we worked even harder on our fitness and martial skills.  We really worked up a sweat!

For our gardening exercise, we worked with sunflower seeds again, making sure everyone took home a kit for themselves.  Hopefully they'll be successful gardeners and can make our sprout salad at home very shortly.

Finally, we made our delicious Energy Crisp recipe.  With apples, dried cranberries, roasted and uncooked sunflower seeds, and a dash of honey and cinnamon, this recipe gave us all the energy we needed after a hard workout, and was delicious too!

Week 4: January 8, 2014

A small group this week but good training nonetheless. We got more serious about our conditioning with some pushups and jumping exercises. We finished learning the garden form this week. We have two weeks left to polish it to perfection!

We looked at the sunflower sprouts we planted before the winter break. They didm;t grow as well as we had hoped most likely because of the cold. Even though that sprouts were small they were still good. We harvested them and trend them into a tasty salad.

Keep up the good work everybody!

Week 3: December 18, 2013

Lots of fun this week as we tackled our Self Defense lesson. We worked on building strong positions with some stance training and then we learned how to make strong blocking structures with our arms. We looked at sunflower seeds and how they protect themselves with their hard shell. Then the kids drew pictures of their different concepts of self defense.
We planted the seeds and in two weeks we'll be able to eat the vitamin packed sunflower greens. Good nutrition is a form of self defense!
Lastly we enjoyed our Green Dragons Self Defense Smoothie, a delicious banana/strawberry smoothie with snippets of the wheatgrass we grew in week 1.

Week 2: December 11, 2013

This week we started off with our Dragon Water lesson.  The students learned how to make a nutritious drink that will replenish their energy after a strong workout.  While we let the water infuse outside thanks to some cold Boston weather, we worked hard strengthening our legs, arms, and hands.  Everyone is really into the physical part of our lessons this session, and it's great to see!
We finished by hanging out around sipping dragon water, looking at and talking about the wheatgrass we planted last week, and making some wheatgrass kits for those that want to plant them at home.  It may be snowing outside, but we can still grow some nutritious greens at home!

Week 1: December 4, 2013

The 3rd session with Mission Hill 7-8 graders is off to a great start! We've got an energetic group of students who brought their game to their first martial arts lesson.
We worked on building our root with horse stance and we looked at how root structures help plants to be stable and strong. We practiced blocking and two types of front kick. Then we tackled the first three movements of the Green Dragons Garden Form. From there we started our wheatgrass plantings. Lastly the kids also drew pictures of different root structures, check them out below.

Looking forward to a great 6 weeks!
