Session 1: September 18 - October 16
Week 6: October 16, 2013
We just enjoyed our last meeting together this week! Energy was high as we took everyone through the paces. With some final practice on our martial arts skill, we got a look at how far all of our new Green Dragons have come these past six weeks. We had some volunteers make us one last Self Defense Smoothie. After a couple of games of helicopter, we said our goodbyes, had quite a few who want to join us again for another six week session, and had a delicious smoothie. Thanks everyone for your hard work!
Week 5: October 9, 2013
We're still riding the beautiful New England autumn and taking advantage of being able to train outside. After working on our Green Dragons martial arts, and a few dedicated students polishing up their Garden Form, we made our way back inside. Students played Helicopter with Master Mike to work on focus and body control, and of course to have fun! Next everyone got a taste of the pea sprouts we planted last week while making a drawing of them. A few of the more focused students we trusted to make some dragon water on their own for the rest of the class. It was delicious! Some of them are well on their way to completing the Sprout Challenge. We allowed a few to perform the Garden Form in the hopes of earning a stamp, everyone enjoyed some fresh dragon water, and we said goodbye looking forward to one more class next week.
Week 4: October 2, 2013
We got another beautiful day of sunshine today! We took full advantage by again taking everyone directly outside. After a big warmup in groups, we brought everyone together to work on our martial skill. Those that showed that they could focus and work hard were taken aside to master the Garden Form while the others worked some more on their basic martial arts forms. Bringing everyone together again, our lesson continued by teaching everyone how to stay hydrated - with water and electrolytes. They helped us create Dragon Water, our healthy version of sports drinks. Then, students planted some peas in groups so that we'll have a beautiful crop of sprouts for next week. Nice job, everyone!
Week 3: September 25, 2013
"This is strong!" Ruby said as she held up her completed Wheatgrass Challenge. Nice job, Ruby! Those roots sure are strong, holding up the pot and all that soil, even when we hold only a few stems of the grass. We didn't let our Green Dragons wait for long as they trickled into the class - as soon as the first few arrived we started leading them outside for an active warm-up. After getting some lungs working hard (and students falling to the ground to rest), we spent some quality time on our martial skills. We made progress on learning all nine forms of the Garden Form. We left just enough time at the end to have the students help us make a delicious smoothie, and while preparing it Master Mike handed out some awards to those that completed the Root Stance and Wheatgrass Challenges. Congrats!
Week 2: September 18, 2013
It was a busy day today for our students. After some quick play with the helicopter game as students arrived, we ran them through our warmup. The students learned the plant part game, and it was great to hear how loud such a big group can be! After some practice, Mr. L and Ms. Seri tested everyone on their root stance. We had one student put up a huge time of almost 3 minutes! While everyone was testing, Master Mike demonstrated how to prepare the Self Defense Smoothie. Everyone enjoyed having a healthy and tasty treat at the end of the class. They all went home with materials to complete the Wheatgrass Challenge - hopefully we'll have some fresh wheatgrass next week!
Week 1: September 11, 2013
Today Master Mike and Mr. L welcomed 19 new faces to the Green Dragons. We showed them the importance of our root stance. Each student got a pot with some soil and wheatgrass seeds to take home to help them see the connection between the strength in our root in martial arts and the roots of plants in keeping them strong and healthy. Each student wrote their name on a folder (some even drew some pictures of plants!) that had their Sprout Challenge paper inside. We'll see at the end of the six week session who is able to complete it!
