We believe growing food is a form of self-defense since our health is directly linked to the foods we eat. By growing more of our own food we protect ourselves and our communities from diet-related diseases. The rigorous work of gardening and farming is good strength training for martial arts and vice versa. Recognizing the common roots of farming and martial arts is a first step. We are seeing many new programs that address nutrition for kids, and we are also seeing more fitness interventions. We want to address both of food and fitness with integrated programs and see martial arts as a great way to do this.
